The grandmother never known

Grandmother left this world

When my dad was just a child

He was left alone

With a wound passed on to me

That only our love could bind

On St. Patrick's Day I'm reflecting on the heritage that I've never known. My native Irish grandmother Mary passed away before I was born from the Spanish flu in March 1918, leaving my father Fred all alone at the age of 6. The psychological trauma of childhood loss was passed on through my father. But without having known her physical presence I sense our connection through my Catholic faith and Celtic spirituality that help me to find harmony between my soul and my life.
