Re-member— to put ourselves back together after being torn apart by life. Remember your lost loves with a poem. Make rituals and special days. Today is 1/11, my dog day, as wan (one) is the dog’s bark in Japanese. I remember that the initial separation that death brings tore me to pieces and ripped the two of us apart. The path of healing, becoming whole, is embracing the torn self, the broken heart, and making it all part of me. We are no longer divided by our ephemeral bodies but united in our eternal souls.
I dreamt that I died
lost at sea
washed up on shore
and there they were
waiting for me
to return home
to them
wagging their tails
licking my face
laying together
on the sand
I knew
that we had never
ever been apart
